Volume Loss. It can let any face down.
You may think you look older than you are, or more tired than you feel. There could be a simple and treatable reason for this. What you think is solely caused by ageing could actually be caused by underlying volume loss. We all know our faces change over time.
When we’re young, our cheeks, jawline and upper face in particular, are full of volume and well defined. It’s this volume that gives our faces their ‘youthful curves’.
Losing volume can make us look tired and older than we feel. While significant weight loss and long term stress can play a part, it’s the gradual loss of the volume supporting the skin that causes our face to change its contours over the years. Following menopause, skin elasticity declines 0.55% and skin thickness declines as much as 1.13% per year.
Once volume is lost, it cannot be replaced by moisturisers.
Moisturisers only supplement surface moisture and cannot penetrate deep enough to reverse skin sagging or rebuild the supporting layers below. Fortunately Volume can be replaced with treatment options such as dermal fillers to revitalise the skin.
